s&box is a game platform developed by Facepunch Studios, the creators of Garry's Mod. Built on Valve's Source 2 engine, it lets the community create, share and play a variety of gamemodes. Each server hosts a unique experience designed by independent developers.

Unlike Garry's Mod, built on Source 1, s&box relies on Source 2, offering better graphics, modern physics and a more capable engine. Addon code is written in C# rather than Lua, and content creation draws on more powerful and accessible built-in tools.

s&box officially launched on Steam on 28 April 2026, leaving its long closed-beta phase behind. The game is now open to everyone, priced at around 20 dollars. Feedback remains mixed, but the platform is regularly enriched with new gamemodes created by the community.

To play s&box, buy and download the game on Steam, where it has been publicly available since April 2026. A Steam account and installing the client are enough. The closed access-key phase is a thing of the past: no invitation is needed anymore to launch the platform and explore its servers.
