Description
HARD LIFE — PvE Survival Done Differently
Hard Life is a challenging PvE server built around one simple idea
Make survival harder where it makes sense — and remove unnecessary grind where it doesn't.
This is not a server where "hardcore" means empty containers, weapons breaking after a few magazines, endless grinding, or enemies turned into bullet sponges.
It is also not a high-loot server where you spawn, find a car and military gear, and cross the entire map within your first evening.
Hard Life is designed to make SCUM's world feel large and progression meaningful again.
THE WORLD MATTERS
MAP OFF
You will need to learn the island, recognize landmarks, remember roads and actually navigate.
Vehicles are deliberately limited. There are enough cars for the server population, but finding one does not mean finding a complete, ready-to-drive vehicle.
Bicycles are much more common and can also be purchased from the Mechanic. They make travelling easier without making the island feel small.
Fuel consumption is reduced, but fuel itself replenishes slowly.
Finding transportation is progression. Keeping it running is preparation.
DANGER INSTEAD OF ARTIFICIAL DIFFICULTY
3x Puppets • 2x Puppet HP • 2x Puppet Damage
Clearing a location actually matters. Puppets do not immediately materialize behind you just because you turned around.
Gunfire and noise, however, travel much farther.
Fire a weapon in the wrong place and nearby Puppets may hear it.
Hordes are OFF.
Hard Life does not create difficulty by magically spawning a wave on top of you. The danger comes from the world already around you.
MILITARY LOOT MUST BE EARNED
Military locations are valuable because they contain valuable equipment.
We do not make military loot artificially worthless just to slow progression.
Instead, dangerous locations are protected by Puppets, Mechs and environmental hazards.
A fresh character can try to rush a military location.
The server will not stop you.
Surviving it is another matter.
RADIATION IS A REAL THREAT
Radiation intensity is heavily increased.
Entering radioactive territory is no longer something you casually do while passing through the area.
Protective equipment, preparation and time management matter.
Some places are dangerous because the environment itself wants you dead.
SURVIVAL WITHOUT POINTLESS GRIND
Hard Life is harder, but not designed to waste your time.
Weapon degradation is reduced
Vehicle fuel consumption is reduced
Skill progression is significantly faster
Cooking and Farming progress even faster
Lockpicking progression is accelerated
Building requires fewer resources
Clothes dry faster
Clothing takes much longer to become completely dirty
Several frustrating minigames provide additional time
Lockpicks and screwdrivers can be combined into larger stacks
Difficulty should come from decisions and preparation, not repetitive chores.
VEHICLES ARE VALUABLE AGAIN
Cars are limited.
Motorcycles are rarer.
Aircraft exist, but obtaining one means reaching and surviving the places where they can be found.
Bicycles remain widely available as basic transportation.
Finding a car with an engine does not guarantee a complete vehicle. Missing parts may still need to be found or purchased.
The Mechanic sells vehicle parts, but does not sell ready-to-drive cars or motorcycles.
You have to find your vehicle in the world.
PLAYER-DRIVEN TRADERS
Most traders do not magically provide an endless catalogue of equipment.
Items generally become available because players sold them to the traders.
Traders have unlimited money to buy your loot, but their item supply remains limited.
The Mechanic is the exception: vehicle parts and bicycles remain available so repairing a discovered vehicle is always possible.
Vehicle parts have effectively no resale value, discouraging players from stripping every vehicle on the island simply for profit.
Fame does not restrict purchases.
If an item is available and you can afford it, you can buy it.
LOOT PUPPETS TELL A STORY
Rare Loot Puppets carry more than a random collection of junk.
Their backpacks are designed around what the person might have been doing before becoming infected.
You may find:
• a survivor carrying food and water
• someone gathering medicine
• a mechanic carrying tools and repair supplies
• a civilian with clothing, food and a handgun
• someone returning from a mixed looting run
Their backpacks contain roughly 5–12 items, with varying condition and different themes.
Finding one should feel like discovering what remains of another survivor's last journey.
BUILD WHERE YOU WANT TO LIVE — NOT WHERE YOU WANT TO FARM
Traditional bases remain available outside restricted locations.
Inside towns, flags are restricted, but ordinary houses and apartments can still be used as improvised homes with locks and storage.
Valuable public locations such as garages and workshops cannot simply be claimed and locked away from everyone else.
The world remains available to the entire server.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF HARDCORE
Hard Life is not trying to make every number smaller or every enemy stronger.
It is built around consequences.
No map means navigation matters.
Scarce vehicles make distance matter.
Slow fuel replenishment makes fuel matter.
Dangerous military locations make equipment matter.
Extreme radiation makes protective gear matter.
More Puppets make noise matter.
Slower respawns make clearing an area matter.
And reduced grind means the time you spend surviving matters more than the time you spend repeating the same action.
Harder where it matters.
Fair where it should be.
Less grind where it doesn't.
